The place

What is the Sagrada Família museum?

The Sagrada Família museum is an exhibition about the Basilica's design and construction, included in your €26 ticket. The museum also explains the Basilica's art and Christian symbols, as the Basilica's history page describes. The models connect the design work with the forms built in the nave.

Gaudí worked on the Sagrada Família for 43 years, as the official booklets explain. Gaudí tested building solutions in models at his workshop. The museum shows how computer design and 3D printing now help carry that method forward.

Plan around: time for the models after your Basilica tour, before you leave the grounds.

What you see

What can you see in the Sagrada Família museum?

The Sagrada Família museum shows the model workshop's methods, including 3D printing. The museum's pinnacle models show coloured fruit and mosaic. Design panels explain the Basilica's forms.

The Basilica's side façades have 12 fruit baskets, with the fruit arranged by season. Etsuro Sotoo made the mosaic baskets following Gaudí's models. The baskets represent the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The museum models let you study the mosaic before looking for the fruit outside.

The Basilica's central nave vaults rise 45 metres above the floor. Gaudí designed columns that branch to carry the weight down to the foundations. Look up when you reach the nave.
